چکیده

In this paper we describe a practical implementation of parallel computation for the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of an alkane/aluminum oxide interface. A serial MD program was converted into a parallel code utilizing the message passing interface (MPI). This code was evaluated on a twelve processor symmetrical multi-processor as well as on a cluster of four processor SMPs. A maximum speedup of 5.25 was achieved with twelve processors on the large shared memory machine. The cluster performance saturated at a speedup of 4.5 with two nodes. High communication costs and considerable load imbalance in the system were identiied as areas that need further investigation for obtaining better performance.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Al/NiO Thermite Reaction Using Reactive Force Field (ReaxFF)

In this work, the thermal reaction of aluminum (Al) and nickel oxide (NiO) was investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. Some effective features of reaction such as reaction temperature, the reaction mechanism, and diffusion rate of oxygen into aluminum structure were studied. ReaxFF force field was performed to study the Al/NiO thermite reaction behavior at five different temperatures (5...

Mechanical Characteristics and Failure Mechanism of Nano-Single Crystal Aluminum Based on Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Strain Rate and Temperature Effects

Besides experimental methods, numerical simulations bring benefits and great opportunities to characterize and predict mechanical behaviors of materials especially at nanoscale. In this study, a nano-single crystal aluminum (Al) as a typical face centered cubic (FCC) metal was modeled based on molecular dynamics (MD) method and by applying tensile and compressive strain loadings its mechanical ...

Density Functional Theory Simulations of High-k Oxides on III-V Semiconductors

Abstract A comprehensive overview of density functional theory simulations of high-k oxide/III-V semiconductor interfaces is presented. The methodologies of realistic amorphous high-k oxide generation by hybrid classical-DFT molecular dynamics are compared. The simulation techniques, oxide/semiconductor model designs and rules for formation of unpinned high-k oxide/semiconductor interfaces are ...

Dynamics of Oxidation of Aluminum Nanoclusters using Variable Charge Molecular-Dynamics Simulations on Parallel Computers

Oxidation of aluminum nanoclusters is investigated with a parallel molecular-dynamics approach based on dynamic charge transfer among atoms. Structural and dynamic correlations reveal that significant charge transfer gives rise to large negative pressure in the oxide which dominates the positive pressure due to steric forces. As a result, aluminum moves outward and oxygen moves towards the inte...

Molecular dynamics simulations of liquid phase interfaces: understanding the structure of the glycerol/water-dodecane system.

Modern spectroscopic techniques such as time-resolved second-harmonic-generation spectroscopy allow molecules to be examined selectively directly at phase interfaces. Two-phase systems formed by glycerol/water and alkane layers have previously been studied by time-resolved second-harmonic-generation spectroscopic measurements. In this molecular dynamics study, a triphenylmethane dye was inserte...
